DrawTales ("we," "our," or "us") is a children's app designed for ages 4-8, intended to be used with parental oversight. We are committed to protecting your family's privacy and complying with applicable privacy laws, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Information We Collect
When you use DrawTales, we may collect:
- Device Identifier: A unique, anonymous identifier generated on your device for authentication purposes. This identifier is not linked to any personal information.
- Drawings: Images captured or selected by the user for story generation.
- Generated Stories: Story illustrations and narration text created from drawings.
- App Preferences: Language settings and display preferences.
- Crash and Error Reports: Anonymous technical information about app crashes and errors, including device type and app version. These reports do not contain personal information, drawings, or story content.
How We Use Information
We use the information collected solely for the purpose of providing the DrawTales service:
- Authentication: To identify your device and enable app functionality. No personal account or sign-in is required.
- Story Generation: Drawings are processed by AI to create personalized stories.
- Service Improvement: Anonymous usage analytics to improve app performance.
Data Storage
Local Storage: Stories and drawings are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
iCloud Sync: If enabled, your data syncs across your Apple devices using iCloud. This data is encrypted and managed by Apple according to their privacy practices.
Server Processing: When generating stories, drawings are temporarily transmitted to our secure servers for AI processing. We do not retain drawings or generated content on our servers after processing is complete.
Third-Party Services
DrawTales uses the following third-party services:
- Apple iCloud: For optional data sync across your Apple devices.
- AI Processing Services: We use third-party AI services to process drawings and generate stories. Drawings and prompts are transmitted only for the purpose of generating story content and are not retained by these providers beyond the duration of processing. Our infrastructure runs on Google Cloud Platform.
- Sentry: For anonymous crash and error reporting to help us identify and fix technical issues. Sentry receives only technical diagnostic data (device type, app version, error details) and never receives personal information, drawings, or story content. Data is processed in the EU in accordance with GDPR.
Children's Privacy
DrawTales is designed for children ages 4-8 and requires parental oversight:
- No Account Required: DrawTales does not require any sign-in or personal information to use. The app uses anonymous device-based authentication.
- Parental Controls: Settings and purchases are protected by a parental gate to ensure adult oversight.
- No Direct Marketing: We do not show ads or engage in marketing directed at children.
- Limited Data Collection: We only collect data necessary for app functionality.
- No Social Features: The app does not include chat, sharing, or social networking features that would allow children to share personal information.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request information about the data we have associated with your device.
- Deletion: Delete your stories from within the app, or request complete data deletion by contacting us.
- Opt-out: Disable iCloud sync at any time in the app settings.
Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure cloud infrastructure with trusted providers
- No retention of processed drawings on our servers
- Regular security reviews and updates
